Paternal grandfather was a native of Scotland and emigrated to America long before the Revolutionary War.
The maternal grandfather came to Memphis at an early day and became a prominent planter and contractor. He left a family of four children: Virginia C., Annie, Jennett and B. F.
A. D. McDuffie was a school-teacher in his younger days, and later in life devoted his time to agricultural pursuits. He was a solider in the late war, and in 1869 he removed to Texas, engaging in farming & stock-raising.
He and his wife were members of the Old-School Presbyterian Church. Mr. McDuffie is a prominent member of the Masonic order.

Notes for REV. JAMES ISAAC POWER:
Lived with is widowed mother on a plantation in Marshall Co., MS. An older brother William lived in the area and some uncles & aunts. They all lived in close proximity, near where the DeSota, Marshall, & Panola counties meet.
In Nacogdoches, Rev. Power served as pastor of historic Old North Baptist Church, the oldest continuous Baptist church in TX. He was minister in 1868 and again from 1870-1872. He contracter consumption (tuberculosis). Probably because of his hill health & thus a need for Ann Eliza to be near some of her people, the family moved to Ellis Co., abt 1873. The Powers bought a farm near Grove Creek & completed the building of a home shortly before Rev. Power bied. He was bured beside his mother-in-law in City Cemetery in Waxahachie.
