jc: You helped me a great deal by jogging my memory about James Levy being called Vy & pointing me to Beverly Twp In the 1900 Census.
I found Vy and Belle Hobbs, along with a number of other Hobbs families, and Belle's father, Willis (William) Steele, and Frank & Inez Bryant, all living within fairly close proximity to to one another.
The other Hobbs families didn't quite "fit" the mold to be Vy Hobbs father. Brothers, maybe. Relatives, probably.
Only one I found to be a good possibility. The 1900 listing for Frank & Inez Bryant shows a boarder, Robert, age 12, who is still living there in the 1910 Census when Ida & Cecil Hobbs, 7 & 5 yrs, are shown as part of that household. Living in the very next dwelling from Frank & Inez Bryant and Robert is a Nancy Hobbs, head, 58, b. Ky. She lists three daughters, all younger (17,15,ll) than James Levy Hobbs. She just might be his mother, his father having possibly already died. The other "James, son" listed in one of the other Hobbs' household was b. 1877 and shown still living at home so, of course, that can't be my James Levy Hobbs since he's living in the same area in another house.
The 1900 Census gives me a correction on James Levy's BD. (It's April 1880 instead of 1882).
Thank you so very much for the help you've given me. I'm sure you know how much it's appreciated.
