Harbard/Harbert and John Hobbs, NC IL
I'm getting strong clues that indicate my g.g.grandfather, Harbard or Harbert (sometimes Herbert) Hobbs, might have been the son of William and Easter (Esther) Hobbs in Orange County, NC.(late 1700's)Their Harbard was said to have been born about 1786.My Harbard died about 1848 in Madison Co., IL. His wife's name was Rutha.
In land records and the 1850 Madison Co. census, there was a John Hobbs, born in NC, who lived nearby.
The heirs of "Herbert", Rutha and John A. Hobbs (all the heirs were Herbert's children) signed a land sale document in 1876.Question:So who was John? Harbard's brother? In the 1850 census, John had no wife. His oldest daughter was 17 and born in IL. I couldn't read her name. This John's age (born approx. 1795) doesn't match that of the NC Harbard's brother John, but it's close to his brother Jonathan.Confusing! Any ideas?
