Hey Brian! This is very exciting! I also believe Hobbins is an originally English name. I have met another Hobbins on ancestry.com who lives in Limerick, Ireland. His great grandfather was the head of the Limerick Police Dept and he & I both agree, being such a rare name in Ireland, that they very well may have been part of the English occupation. We have some police officers here in NY with the rare surname also! Including my husband Richard, who got me started in this quest to do both our family trees. Hope to hear from you soon.
