Carol,
Thanks for the reply! The source I was using is HOMES OF FAMILY NAMES IN GREAT BRITAIN, by Henry Brougham Guppy. He cites Margaret as the executrix of the will of her husband Ebenezer Jose (of the Jose family of NH)and mentions her "beloved brother Joseph Hixon". Guppy states she was the daughter of "Richard Damorius and wife Margaret" (Vol.27, pg. 274).
Peter Coldham, in his book, AMERICAN MIGRATIONS 1765-1799, mentions Margaret, the will, and refers to Joseph Hixon as "Captain". Though circumstantial, this leads me to believe his is the same Joseph Hixon who mastered the Minerva.
It does appear I have the wrong Richard unless he married someone named Margaret before Sarah Fitch. I'm basing my Margaret's birth year on her husband's, which was 22 Feb 1729/30, but she could easily have been born prior to that.
I have no specific birth dates of Ebenezer and Margaret's three children, but he died young on 26 Feb 1760, so they would have to have been born between about 1747 and 1760. Their names were Michael Dennis, Ebenezer and Joanna, and were all mentioned in the will. My ancestor, Michael Dennis Jose, was a sea captain (possibly influenced in choice of career by a beloved uncle?) and loyalist during the Revolution. According to Coldham, he filed a "memorial" from London in 1783 in an attempt to get back property in Portsmouth, NH confiscated from him, but the claim was rejected.
Coincidentally, Capt. Hixon's ship Minerva and a ship on which Michael Jose served, the Polly, were both owned by the same man, Enoch Hobart.
I haven't found anything on Ebenezer Jose Jr. or on Joanna yet, but Michael Dennis did marry a Margaret Craft in London in 1775, and had two sons, Henry and Michael C.
Hope this is something you can match up. I appreciate all your help.
Denise
