My ggrandmother was supposedly a Hixenbaugh. I say that since I am not sure the source was correct. My grandfather William Henry Smith born 2/22/1880 in Kane PA was the son of Anderson Smith and Inez Hixenbaugh. I am not sure that he was born in Kane (McKean County). I think it was more Westmoreland, Washington County, Fayette area. I have never found anything on Inez. Inez is a nickname for Agnes from what I have been told. The only Inez I have found was born in 1892 and married a Guy Moorman. My grandfather supposedly had a child out of wedlock and I think Inez may have been that child's mother instead of Wm's. (Long family story). I think the child's name was Benjamin. This child tried to contact my aunt in the 1960's but she thought it was a prank phone call. I have managed to trace all my other lines back 200-400 years to the immigrants but not this one. Anything sound familiar to you? Wm ended up marrying a Laura Bell Wallace in St Clairsville OH (Belmont County) in 1909. They had 9 children 3 of which are still living. Wm and three of his children, Alfretta, William and Edward are buried in unmarked graves in Alexander's cemetery in Neff's OH. There are Hixenbaugh's who live right down the road and we have talked to them but no relationship could be found. I can be reached at
