Will N. Hix or Harden Hix in 1830s Mo.? also Cherokee chief legend?

I am looking to overcome a family research vs. family oral history and Bible dilemma. In a nut shell, I am looking for the parent of my ancestor (with some documentation hopefully)--this fella, William N. Hix:

William N. [Nelson?] Hix b.27 May 1842 in Missouri, d. 8 Mar 1903; married Minerva Melvina Cain b. 25 Dec 1862 in Kentucky, d.14 Jan 1935. They were married 11 Nov 1877 in Diehlstadt, Mississippi CO., Missouri and had a bunch of kids: Mary M. (1879-1879), Harden (1880-1883), James(1883-1883), John Baptist (1885-1959), Daniel H.R. Hix (1887-1932), William N. II (1889-1965), Andrew Jackson (1894-1966), George (1896-1896), Iva D. (1898-1994). After William’s death, Minerva Cain married Charlie E. Thompson (b.1869)

In 1880, it shows this family living in Tywappity, Mississippi County, Missouri but this (along with the marriage record) is the earliest record I have found so far).

UNVERIFIED Family History as told by my relatives and the family Bible: Minerva Melvina Cain was the eldest daughter of Chief Daniel Cain of the Cherokee nation (not true according to the internet sources, but my family insist, and the picture does look indian). Family Bible lists the dad as Jim Cain. I have not found any records verifying any of this. There seems to be a legend among a few other Hix families on these boards of a Hix in early Missouri that married a daughter of a Cherokee Chief.

Also Unverified Family History states Williams’s parents as Will N. And Della Hix:
“Will N. Hix migrated to the U.S. from Norway sometime between 1830 and 1835. Will was of Swedish descent. His wife, Della, was of French descent, and came to the U.S. around 1833. They were married in western Missouri in 1835, at the Carthrage Trading Post by their local parson. They lived near Joplin, Missouri, for most of their lives. There is no record of when they died. At the time of their marriage, Will was in his middle or late twenties and Della was in her teens or early twenties. It is believed that Will, after Della's death, moved to south-central Michigan. There is knowledge of his living near Allen, Michigan. He raised a complete family in that area. No record of how large to date. He also changed the spelling of his last name to Hicks”---per William N. Hicks III. Also, their kids were reputed to be Fannie, James E., Maude, and William Nelson Hix.

I have not been able to verify any of the above at all. You would figure a family living in Joplin from roughly 1835 to the 1860s would leave some scratch of record, but nope, can’t find anything.

I have, in my research, become really suspicious of the Harden Hix that married Altezora Spencer in 1834. The date matches to the legend. They lived in roughly the same area as the family history, early on. They had a child named William Hix born roughly the same year, and William had a brother named James. My William’s first born male child (that died at age 3) was named Harden, and 5 of the kids share names with the Harden kids of Camden Co.. Seems too much a coincidence to me. The kids' names I got from the family bible, not from family oral history.

So, is there anyone that can help me reconcile these dilemmas with the Cherokee chief and with the parents of William N. Hix? Is the William Hix of 1880 Tywappity, Mississippi County, Missouri the same as the William Hix, child of Harden Hix?
