The marriage of Col. John Smith and Martha Hix information came from "The History of Northeast Missouri." I was not able to find much information from Saline County though they are supposed to have a very good Genealogy club on the square. Would you send me a copy of your probate document? As I recall I looked for Amanda's parents in KY and TN but had no luck. After her husband died she took some of her children and went back east to her parents during the Civil War. The courthouse is built on the their land and was donated by a man called O'Dell. How he came by it I never found out. It should be in the Deeds and tax records there in the courthouse.
