I have looked at the application and he states that Heat is their Indian name not a surname. He clearly states in all the application and hand written letters that this is their name not Hite. I would now start looking for the names of Crane Eater and Heats on all of the rolls. But is the commission looked on the rolls and could not find his family listed on them, then I would say you are out of luck and cannot prove he was Indian.
