I copy a small portion of an old document compiled by Ruth and Hilda Hisey, entitled History and Genealogy of the Hisey Family, 1751-1933, as shared by Bill Hisey of Texas.
The name of Hisey first became known in the Country probably about the year 1751 when Hans George Hisey immigrated from Holland to Pennsylvania.
The first settlement made by the Hisey Family in the Valley of Virginia was on June 13, 1773, when the son of Hans George Hisey, Christian Hisey, purchased land at Narrow Passage Creek. However, it was Christian Hisey, Jr. who made the Valley his permanent home. It was he who became the ancestor of this branch of the Hisey family.
It remained for Jacob Hisey, the third son of Christian, Jr., to pioneer to the Middle West.In 1817 he and his family moved to Ohio….
The earliest history it has been possible to obtain concerning the Hisey family is of one Hans George Hisey who came from Rotterdam, Holland, September 24, 1751, on the ship Neptune, John Mason, captain with 284 passengers aboard.Among them were many familiar named people, most of whom came from Switzerland. These people were true republicans, as their country was free for 500 years before they came. These first arrivals settled in the State of Pennsylvania….
On January 13, 1773, Christian Hisey obtained…land on Narrow Passage Creek. Here he met Christiana Hultz, whom he later married.Of this union were born three children, John, Christian Jr.., and Daniel Hisey.
At the death of Christian Hisey, Sr., in 1777…many unusual items were mentioned in the inventory:among them were a Bible printed in German and a Menonite Martyrs Book….
Christian Jr. served (before his marriage) in the War of the Revolution…By tradition, this young man at one time ran away from the army and came home, as he expressed in his own language, “to see his gal”, and returned to the army with no disciplinary action.
Probably about the year 1781, Christian returned home from the army and married Rosanna Fultz, who was a native of Germany.Of this union there were born seven sons and two daughters:Daniel, John, Jacob, Frederick, Joseph, David, Henry, Elizabeth, and Christina.Christian died in 1827.
The history continues with the story of Jacob in Ohio, but that is not your line.
