Mrs. Sarah M. (Hisey) Summers was born in Athens, Ohio, August 5, 1844. Moved to Henry County, Missouri, in 1856, and from thence to Decatur County, Iowa, in 1860, where she professed conversion and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church. She was married to J.H. Summers, April 3, 1861, from which union there were eight children born, six of whom are still living, two having gone on to occupy the home on the other side, and to await the coming of the rest of the family. From Decatur County, Iowa, she removed with her family to Mitchell County, Kansas,to their farm ten miles south of Beloit in 1878, where they resided and made for themselves a comfortable home, and reared and educated their children. In November last they moved to Beloit, where she departed this life February 17, 1900, of cancer.

Sister Summers united with the Pleasant View Church soon after moving to Mitchell County, and remained a faithful member of the same until her death. She was a devout member of the Woman's Relief Corps, of Beloit, as well as a member of the Pleasant View W.C.T.U., engaging in all the active work of these societies, where her presence will be so much missed, and yet where her influence will still live. She was a great sufferer for a number of weeks prior to her death, but a most patient one. But now her sufferings are passed, and the joys of an endless life are begun.

She leaves behind to mourn her loss, an aged father, 83 years old, one sister living in Illinois, a faithful husband and six grown children-three boys and three girls-all of whom can truly say:

I've a mother now in heaven,
She's singing that new song;
It's praise to our Savior,
That she had loved so long.

The funeral services were held at the Pleasant View Chapel, Monday, February 19, conducted by her pastor, the Reverend J.C. Helmick, assisted by Reverend Brainard, of Beloit, a former Pastor, and the remains were interred in the Pleasant View Cemetery.
J.C.H.
