I am seeking information about the family of my great grandfather George Hirst. He was born in Leeds in May 1838.
He had a sister Ann/Anne who never married. I think the family lived in the Adel and Burley areas of Leeds. George was a joiner/carpenter and as a young man went to sea as a ship's carpenter. George married Harriet Uttley/ Utley of Bradgate, Rotherham in 1868/9 and from that time lived in the Sheffield area. Harriet died in 1897 and George in 1922.
I would be really grateful if anyone can tell me anything about George's family. I would think they would be on the 1861 census (but George would have been age 23 at the time and may have been at sea.)
