Hello Geoff, The John Hurst in whom you are interested was my 2xGt g- father. He was a joiner from Manchester and married Sarah Perkins at Manchester Cathedral on 29 Sept 1834.I think they had at least 3 children: James, Isabella and Abraham. I know that Sarah & Isabella were living in Rochdale Rd., Manchester in 1881 aged 65 and 21 respectively. Abraham, my gt g-father, was somewhat of a rogue. He was born on 17 Feb 1839 In 1862 he married Bridget Bannon and they had: Elizabeth 1862/3 Abraham 1866/7 Margaret 1 Oct 1868. He later married Mary Anne Usher who was 17 years younger than himself and already had a baby (Annie) & he subsequently tried to hide the age gap by lying about his age on the Census. That, however, gave him problems in respect of having children (by his first marriage) who then appeared to be not that much older than himself. So he passed them off as sisters. The children of Ab & Mary Anne were: Ellen b 11 Oct 1880 (my g-mother) Isabella Sarah Emma. As you can see I am descended from Ab's second marriage but know someone who was descended from the first. There were all sorts of tensions & squabbles between the two families, although on many occasions they clearly looked after each other. Abraham, eventually deserted Mary, telling her he was going to make a fortune in America. He died in Philadelphia. I hope that that is of interest to you. I would certainly be fascinated to know what your link to the family is and whether or not you can add to the saga. Best Wishes, Mike Tidswell
