Greetings, John,
My message and also my email to you (which was the same as the post, as I recall) had to do with what I had found in American censuses and comments on the original research by Ralph Hermon, specifically with regard to the church records he had found in LDS film.
I sent emails to you and Ralph in addition to the post since it had been a year since you had entered your posts and I wanted to alert you to the fact that I had discovered them and wanted to discuss.I am interested in discussing in general, of course, but in particular, I am interested in the parentage of the Peter Hircock who married Elizabeth Hix, and his brothers, Jacob and William.
First let me mention that I have in my possession a couple of World Family Tree CDs which contains family trees that lists a Thomas Hircock as the father of Peter, Jacob and William.According to both trees, the name of Thomas' wife is Lily.(However, this may be merely an indication that one was copied from the other and does not necessarily increase the chances that they are correct.)
I tend to believe that the name of the father of Peter, Jacob and William really was Thomas. The main reason is that the name, Thomas, seems to have been given to the children and grandchildren of Peter, Jacob and William more that would be expected otherwise.
Given this, I looked for church records among Ralph's notes and found a Thomas Hircock with wife, Mary Culy, who were married on November 29, 1810 (ref. Marriages, St. Peters Parish Wisbech England, LDS Roll #1040587).This was two years before Peter was born. Thus they were in the right location at about the right time and of an age appropriate to be the parents of Peter, born 1812, Jacob, born 1824 and William, born 1833.And since there was 21 years difference in the brothers, this was a relatively tight fit.
I am aware that Pamela seems certain that the name of Thomas' wife was Lily. However, I think it may be possible that Lily and Mary were the same person.Sometimes people have middle names which they go by except on official documents such as a church marriage record.
Finally, I would note that if you were previously aware of a Culy in you background, I think it increases the chances that this Thomas Hircock and this Mary Culy were the parents of Peter, Jacob and William.
Cheers.
