There has been much perplexity among the descendants of Henry Hipple of Canton, Fulton Co, IL, husband of Catharine (Lingenfelter) Hipple, about the date of his death. The Greenwood Cemetery Records published by the local genealogical society, another book called the
"Reconstructed Records," and the probate records at the Fulton County Courthouse contain different and contradictory information. There is no obituary.
A very kind and dedicated librarian at the local public library drove out to Greenwood Cemetery and checked the date on the actual tombstone. The tombstone says that Henry Hipple died 4 May 1863, in his 81st year. This information is consistent with the probate file, but neither of the other sources.
