One of the bonuses of doing DNA testing is finding what ancestral haplogroup or clan one's ancient paternal line belonged to. In the case of us lower South Carolina Hiotts, the DNA goes back to R1b1c people, who helped populate the western side of Europe after the last ice age. This would include the Celtic peoples who went into France, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and some of Spain.
