Hiott Family Genealogy Forum

Recent contact with some of the Hiotts of Ontario, Canada, shows a presence there for over a century. I have found the name of John Wilford Hiott, abt 1917 to abt 1959, whose father was said to have been Joseph Hiott, also of Ontario. We need to find were the ancestors of Joseph were located?
Of possible interest, there were 2 Hiotts listed in N.Y. in the 1860 census index: James M. and Joseph. Since the present day Hiotts of Ontario live in St. Catharines, not far from Niagara Falls, this might prove to be a connection? There was also an Edna E. Hiott in the Port Huron area of Michigan [next to Ontario] in 1886. Another interesting entry was in Bradford Co., Pa., in the 1880 census, when John P. Hiott was listed as being a 38 yr. old resident involved in "teaming," who listed his place of birth as N.Y., and the place of his mother's birth as N.Y., but the place of birth of his father as England. Could it have been that a totally different line of Hiotts emerged from a "late" immigration of a Hiott from England to New York before 1840?
Just some ruminations on my part, added to the forum for the purpose of inviting further information or even speculation?
