Hello: I am looking for PRIMARY records on Timothy Hinman, supposedly born in 1779 in Waterbury, Connecticut. I am looking specifically for a record of birth, or a marriage record for his supposed marriage to Lola Pond. Also looking for any information as to what happened to him. As many of you know, Lola moved to Sangamon County, Illinois in 1822 without her husband, and with her son John B., and sister Dicey's family. Is Daniel Streator Pond's work ("The descendents of Samuel Pond" (1875))the only source of information for this family? I was able to obtain a copy, but am unaware if there is any other source material on this family. My current thinking is that Timothy Hinman, b. 1779, did not exist and is the product of Rev. Bilious Pond's faulty memory when he gave this information to D.S. Pond to include in his 1875 book. Pond lists 10 children born to the union - Polly, Timothy, Warren, Aaron, Franklin, John B., Charles, Rachel, Lola, and Sarah. No mention in the Pond book as to where specifically this family lived (other than later in Cazenovia, Madison County, New York). Madison was part of Oneida County, New York until 1806. In 1800, Timothy Pond Sr., Timothy Jr., and several of Timothy Sr.'s brothers - Barnabus and Bartholomew notably - were living in the village of Deerfield, Paris Twp., Oneida County, New York (listed on pages 107, 108, and 112). But also living amongst the Pond families is Aaron Hinman (listed on page 111). As a sidenote, there is no Timothy Hinman listed as a family head. Aaron is the only Hinman listed as living in this town. Recently, I found that (probably) this Aaron Hinman died in 1813 at Sacket's Harbor, New York as a soldier during the War of 1812. His bounty land application file lists three heirs - a daughter Polly, and 2 sons - Timothy, and Warren. These three children are also listed as children of Timothy Hinman and Lola Pond. If Timothy and Lola (Pond) Hinman were living in the same town at the same time as Aaron Hinman, and both families had three Hinman children with identical names, it would be one heck of a coincidence. I'm not saying it's impossible, just that there is a chance that the father of Lola's children may not be Timothy, and it may be Aaron Hinman instead. Are there any sources out there that have this potential scenario outlined? By the way, Timothy Hinman and Lola Pond supposedly also had a son named Aaron. Food for thought... Just wanted to throw that out there. Thanks in advance to your inputs. Notify Administrator about this message?
