Hello:

I am looking for info on Aaron Hinman, b. abt 1776, Woodbury, CT; d. 24 July 1813, Sacket's Harbor, NY. I do not know if Aaron died as a result of wounds suffered in the battle there (which started on 27 May 1813), or from disease. I recently found a bounty land warrant (#27186) for Aaron's service in the War of 1812 that indicates Aaron was the father of Timothy and Warren Hinman. The warrant was notorized in Clinton, NY in 1842 and Timothy lived in Oneida Co, NY in 1820 and 1830. He also married Moranda Warner on 22 July 1819 in Clinton, NY. Additionally, the warrant awards the two sons of Aaron 160 acres of land, and three years later Timothy Hinman was in Grant County, Wisconsin with 160 acres of land. So I am fairly certain this bounty land warrant refers to my 4th great grandfather Timothy Hinman, b. 1 Nov 1796.

I have been researching the ancestry of Timothy for the last 25 years and - being fellow genealogiphiles - I'm sure you can understand my joy when I first viewed the aforementioned bounty land warrant. By the way, the warrant also mentions a pending pension case for Aaron, so I am trying to locate this at present.

Now, the question becomes who did Aaron Hinman, b. 1776, Woodbury, Litchfield County, CT, marry, and who were his parents? I have checked Woodbury records (Families of Ancient Woodbury, v. 3) to no avail. Any ideas out there?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Sincerely,
Tom Sutter (5th great grandson of Aaron Hinman, b. 1776!)
