I believe that Amos was son of Enoch HINCKLEY & Philenia STEVENS, but records don't quite fit. "Hinckley Heritage & History" by E. Chas. HINCKLEY:
Thomas HINCKLEY (22 July 1731, Harwich, MA - 7 Mar. 1807, Harwich, m1. 1 Nov. 1753, Sarah COVEL; m2. Susannah CHASE.Thomas had, apparently by second wife, at Harwich:
Sarah, m. Stephen WHITE
Mehitable, b. 10 Oct. 1775, m. Stephen SMITH
Thomas, b. 6 Jan. 1777
Elijah (28 Apr. 1780 - 17 May 1859) m. 25 S 1800, Elizabeth BRADFORD
Susannah, b. 14 Oct. 1782, m. David CHASE
Enoch (3 Mar. 1784 - 13 Aug. 1844) m. 2 Mar. 1806, Philenia STEVENS.
Ruth, b. 16 S 1786, m. 22 Je. 1809, Benj. HEATH
Edward Bangs HINCKLEY, b. 1 Mar. 1789
Mary/Polly, b. 30 Aug. 1791, m. Enoch ROBBINS
Ensign, b. 1 Je. 1794.
____
Enoch HINCKLEY & Philenia STEVENS are listed online at FamilySearch as parents of Amos S. HINCKLEY.The FamilySearch database of the 1880 Census, Industry, Franklin, ME:Amos S. HINKLEY, 67, ME MA ME; wf. Mary A., 53, ME ME ME; ch. A. Frank, 19; Alma B., 14; & Alice R., 12.
The census age of Amos fits the given birth date of 6 May 1813, ME, but the wife is much younger. The wife had to have been younger to have a child of twelve in 1880.Thus, the marriage date doesn't fit a male born in 1813, who should have been m. 1833 or later.A wife born ca. 1827 would have to marry much later. Can anybody solve this problem?
What children do you have for Amos Stevens HINKLEY?
