Fred,
I don't think I responded to your reply . . . obviously I missed your response to my posting.I'll try to send more detail tomorrow . . . it's much to late to post much tonight. My grandfather was William Wiley Hinkle (1868-1959) and lived most of his life in Madison County but also for a time in adjoining Wayne county.W.W.'s father was Robert Hinkle b. 1845.W.W's mother was Nelly Umphrey or Humphrey. She died when W.W. was very young, leaving him and two siblings, Joel and Mary (Sissie). They were born near Doniphan MO in Ripley County.Robert later remarried and had a large family.Robert's father was Wiley (married to Mary Magdalena Rhyne). They lived most of their lives in Wayne County, just across the Madison County line in the Beulah / Brunot community. In fact part of Wiley's farm was in Madison County . . . a very beautiful valley near Sam A. Baker State Park.Wiley & Mary migrated from Cape Girardeau / Perry County in about 1840.Wiley was about the first of our line to be born in (or enter as an infant) the state (1818).Wiley's parents were Peter (1776-1833)and Amelia (Clodfelter) who had migrated from old Rowan county, NC through Springfield, TN.They spent about 10 years in the Springfield area before moving on to Cape Girardeau County, near Oak Ridge. Wiley & Mary are buried in an old Cemetary near the Perry / Cape G. County line and the interstate that runs from Memphis to St. Louis.Their stones are there but are deteriorating rapidly as its an old untended farm plot.So there is my account from the top of my head at this late hour. You'll find the genealogy on back from Wiley to PA and also to Germany in the Henckel Family Genealogy by Junkin . . . as you may already know.Ken Hinkle
