15 Nov 2001 to Terry Thacker regarding "William Lazarus Henkel/Hinkle who came to America as a medical man with the "German auxiliary troops in employ of the British.
John Merz:
I wonder if Mr. Thacker would be satisfied with learning that this 'Feldscher' could be the one from the Brunswick Grenadier Battalion v. Breymann, who was captured at Saratoga with the Burgoyne Army and was part of the Convention army through all their trials and tribulations ending up in Winchester, Virginia, where he finally decided that the other side of the fence looked better. By the way, his name was Julius Henckel and he deserted on the 5. April 1781 at Winchester. General Riedesel's Order Book says so.
