Looking for Connection to other Hinds
Posted by: Thomas Heimel (ID *****6388) Date: May 05, 2010 at 17:30:00

I am looking to try to connect my family tree for my Irish ancestors. I am looking for someone who may be able to connect a Richard Hinds who was from Laois County, Ireland. I have that His wife Julia McEvoy was born approx. 1811 however, she was listed as 76 on her tombstone and she died in Minnesota in 1897 so she would have been born more like 1821 and Richard was probably born about the same time. Their daughter, my Great Great Grandmother was Jane Hinds born 15 Jan 1861 so 1821 seems more realistic to be having children still.

I don't have a date or place that Richard Hinds and Julia McEvoy were married and from what I have been able to find they had 4 children three boys and a girl. Jane Hinds married a John J Grant 7 Nov 1883 at the St. Paul, MN Cathedral. Her brother, Richard Hinds, looks to have been the witness. I find him on a census in 1885 but not after that. I think he may have died between 1885 and 1895. Looks like he would have been born in 1857. Another brother was Joseph and the last I have no name for. I have that Jane Hinds arrived about 1880 in Kennebunkport, Maine. I have been unable to find any records for that though. Her mother and brothers probably traveled with her and Richard Hinds was probably already dead or may have died enroute. Jane Hinds was born in Maryborough, Ireland and I am assuming her father would have been from the same locality.

From my research it appears the the Hinds were Protestant but my great great grandmother was married in a catholic church and my other realatives are all catholic. I have no idea if Julia McEvoy was catholic or protestant.

If you can place any of the Hinds into your tree or provide any information about where I could find more information I would greatly appreciate it.
