Melinda Hinds, mother of Eli Hankins, was a sister of Eli C
Hinds. They had a brother James B Hinds who is probably the
one you are looking for:

James moved to TX before 1831, when he bought land in
Caldwell Co. I have his wife as Jane, but I don't know much
else about her. She died about 1833, and in 1840 James
married Louisa Cottle. I also know little about her.
It could be that one of his wives' name was really Mary and
she went by her middle name. Do you know more about your
James' wife Mary?
