Carole,

If the Arnold in the 1881 census is the brother it's unlikely that they have the same mother - Hannah would only have been 16 in 1865. As Ernest's middle name was Roberts it seems likely that his mother's maiden name was Roberts, a frequent surname locally. There are a couple of John Hinchliffe/Roberts marriages in the 1860s.
