Hi Paul,
Thanks so much for your email. The information you provide was very helpful.Willima Patrick Hinch who married Mary Isabel Prosser took in my grandfather Douglas Patrick Swift and raised him as their own.He was only a year old or maybe a bit younger.Douglas Patrick went as Douglas Patrick Hinch until the day he went to marry and found out that he was really born a Swift, it was quite a shock to him and his new wife to be. That was in 1933 a year after William Patrick Hinch's death.Douglas Patrick Hince (Swift)'s parents where Alexander Swift (1881-1911) and Harriet Prosser (1884-1966?)....Harriet's sister was Mary Prosser whom married William Patrick Hinch. From what I have been told so far they could not have children of their own and Harriet had just lost her husband and had a daughter Margeret(1906), a son Wilfred (1907), and son Douglas Patrick (1910)and she was pregnant for a daughter who would be born Sept. 1911 just three months after arriving in Halifax from England.I was told that she could not handle all the kids herself so Mary and William said they would take Douglas and raise him as their own.I would love to hear more about Hinch's and your side Matheson if you would like to share. Thanks so much and I hope to hear from you soon.Patti
