Hi Julie, thank you very much for replying.
My grandfather Frank Alfred Hilton b1915 is still with us and in excellent mental and physical health. I have Emailed him last week for more information. I am still awaiting a reply as I asked so many questions!!He was the first son of albert Hilton (there were 3 sons and 2 daughters) However I have two issues with this.
My grandfather told me that he grew up with his step mother, I dont know exactly what that means and I am awaiting clarification from him.
Also, we have a tradition in my family of giving the first son the christian name as the middle name of the father,
My Grandfather is Frank Alfred Hilton
My Father is John Frank Hilton
I am Shane John Hilton
and my son is Liam Shane Hilton
My Uncle is certain that my Great grandfathers name was Alfred G Hilton not Albert. This would make sense Given the above.
if this is the case, my great uncle Alberts citation at the commonwealth war graves would be incorrect as his father is listed as albert. I would therefore like to rectify this asap.
there is also an "Auntie Barbara" who was struck of from the family for having a child out of wedlock. I dont know if she is a real Aunt or my grandfathers mother, or neither! but she was a Hilton by birth.
finally, I dont think that My GG Grandfather would be on the census of 1881 because that would make him 37 when his first child was born. However, he did die in the 1930s.
What do you make of all this!
Regards and thanks again for replying
