I've been looking at both editions of The Hillsman Family, and unfortunately have been unable to locate the Anna/Nancy Hillsman you are researching. There was no mention either of a Heard/Herd surname.

I found a Nancy Hillsman born 1782 in Franklin Co., NC; 1st edition says she never married; 2nd edition states she married in 1827 to a Cordall Francis (doesn't state where and lists no other info on her).

1st edition of Hillsman Book also names families of same Hillsman name but cannot find where they fit in the lines. One such name is "Alexander G. Hillsman, parent uncertain, was born in Delaware in 1803. He married Caroline Griffin of Ga., 1842 in Hancock Co., Ga. His father may have been Captain John G. Hillsman, who was in Warren Co., Ga., around 1812. Caroline was born in 1817 and died about 1880 in Hancock Co." Children are:
George H. - 7 years in 1850
Joseph H. - 5 years in 1850
Carolyn Catherine Elizabeth - born 1846
Benjamin A.- 2 years in 1850
Martha A. - 1 year in 1850
Mary - 2 mo. in 1850

If you'd like me to look up anything else, just let me know. I try to use the message boards instead of personal email so that all may benefit from our info.

I'm so glad to see the board is being used after so many months of inactivity!
