John, I'll check with my friend to see what relationship Alfred had to Frederick, if any. Frederick J. Hills appears with his family in Honolulu in the 1900 census (O'ahu, ed 11, p. 31 a & b) under the name of "Hill." According to the census, he was born in 1823; he and both of his parents were born in England. They had arrived in Hawaii in 1897 (although they had been here in Hawaii earlier) from California were they had lived for a few years. Frederick J. "Hill," 76, married 30 years, b. England Nuu, wife, 55, mother of 4, b. Tahiti, father b. France, mother b. Tahiti William, son, 28, b.Tahiti, married 2 years (wife not enumerated). Occupation: Soda work Living next door: John "Hill," 27, b. Tahiti, father b. England, mother b. Tahiti, married 4 years. Occupation: Manufactor soda Lizzie, wife, 24, b. Indiana, parents b. Indiana. Margarite, 3, b. California Elanore, 8 months, b. Hawaiian Islands. The family operated a soda factory. Frederic Jesse Hills was naturalized on 15 Feb 1893 in the county of Los Angeles.
