Hello JOe,
My husband is a descendant of John Hillis and I have done some research on this line for him in the past. I have not worked on this line for several years so I am sure progress has been made since I last researched.
John Hillis owned several parcels of land in Wilcox Co and he was a Methodist Episcopal Minister as well as being licensed to perform marriage in Wilcox Co in 1838 where he preached for 10-12 years. He md. Lydia Glover and had 5 sons. William Washington, Unk male, Wylie Gaines, John K. and Benjamin D.
I have the births, deaths and marriages of the sons. My husband is a desc. of Wylie Gaines Hillis.
John Hillis joined Carson's Regiment of the Mississippi Militia to fight in the War of 1812 \ War with the Creeks.
John d. in Pope Co. Arkansas c. 1864 and is buried in the Hillis Cemetery.
Hope this helps. How are you related to John Hillis?
you can send me an email @ rbhillis@hotmail.com and I can hopefully fill in more blanks for you.
Beth
