Hi Lonnie, I too descend from John M. Hillis and his first wife Sarah Bradley. Do you know anything about her? I am at a loss!
I believe that Samuel Hillis, Sr. was aka Hillhouse and was the son of John Hillhouse and Rachael. He was the son I believe of Abraham Hillhouse and Janet Artkelly maybe? I have not been successful in finding them in Ireland or Scotland.
I believe that Elizabeth Smith was the daughter of Sampson Smith who travelled with Robert Luckie, Samuel Hillis, Sr. and a Baldridge. I believe that Sampson Smith may have moved from PA with this group to Rowan SC.
I know that this Baldridge family moved to NC and then to Maury TN where Caty Baldridge, descendant of Robert Luckie would marry an Ebenezer Rice, Jr. Caty Baldridge was there with Samuel C. Hillis and Elizabeth Osborn and was Samuel's cousin through the Luckie line. They all moved to White/Edwards IL and then Samuel C. Hillis moved to Butler MO where he would marry Anna (probably Butler) Shipman where they would become parents of our common ancestor John M. Hillis.
