I am looking for any information on this person: Martha A Hillis, b. abt 1835 IRE, sailed in 1852 on the ship Typhoon to the US departing from Liverpool. Plans unknown, she was a "Gentleman's Servent" per ships record. I believe this is my gggrandmother who at Smyrna DE married my gggrandfather, Robert Norris b. 1833 IRE. He had also come on a ship named Underwriter just before Martha sailed for the US. Here is their 1880 census record showing family - there was one older daughter, Mary b. 1856, who is not shown living with them at this census time: Census Place: Smyrna, Kent, Delaware Source: FHL Film 1254116; National Archives Film T9-0116; Page 3A Household: Rel Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Robert NORRIS Self Male M W 47 IRE Occ: Employed Is Gas Works Fa: IRE Mo: IRE Martha A. The only other information I have on their children is that their son Willie apparently owned a business (drugstore or lumberyard) in Smyrna, DE which was sold and the proceeds liquidated to his family when he died (we think in the 1950s). That included his niece, my grandmother, so apparently Willie never married or had heirs. Any help is appreciated. Kathleen Notify Administrator about this message?
