In Reply to: Re: HILLIER FAMILY by Martin Hillier of 763

Thank you for your reply to my request which I had sent out February 2002 (almost two years ago! Since then, I have discovered more information on my Hillier family!

Thank you Martin Hillier for your family history, but sadly don't think that there is a connection with my family - sorry!

My father was also called Percy Hillier, dob 9 September 1925, born in Renfrew Road, Kennington South London. He died in 1995.

My father was also a sailor for the Merchant Navy around 1945 approx, later to be a Textile Merchant, Security Guard, and lastly a Storeman for the Savoy Hotel Laundry.
He married twice - first wife Ivy May Henderson dob 28 October 1927 - died aged 48 4 February 1976 - three children from this union. Lived in Brixton, South London.

My father remarried again (after bereavement) and married Freda Hills (she has been married three times!) - no children from this union.Lived in Brixton, South London.

My grandparents Florence Nee Bain and Percy Hillier had five children, Florence, Bessie, Kathleen, Percy (my father)Ivy, 4 have since died, leaving my aunt Ivy living in a nursing home, in Kent.

My grandparents Florence and Percy Hillier moved to a caretaker flat and grandpa worked for the mortuary in Havil Street,St Giles Hospital, Camberwell/Peckham borders, London, SE5 around the 50's/60's.

I only know that my Paternal Grandfather was called Percy Hillier - dob 15 February 1897 born in Battersea, Wandsworth, South London. He was also in the Merchant Navy 1920-He also was a Caretaker for the Relief Station (a form of hostel for the homeless or links with the Salvation Army) in South London, England around the time of my father's birth.

Finally, my grandparents moved to Romford, South Ockendon, Essex during the late 60's. Grandpa Percy Hillier died first in Essex, around October/November 1965 and Grandma died June 1989.

I have only just discovered recently that grandpa also had two other brothers (I don't know if there were more) called Timothy Hillier, a vicar, who onced lived in South Africa, and the other was George Hillier, a Police Constable, who also once lived in South Africa. Still trying to establish if they did exist in my Hillier family?

My Great Grandparents Harvey Hillier married Annie Hettie Nee Smith 13 May 1894 in West Ham, Essex.

I'm now looking for more information on my Great Great Grandfather called Samuel Hillier, who, on my Great Grandfather Harvey Hillier's copy marriage certificate was stated as being his father!

Can anybody out there please get in touch with me with regards to the above or better still, more information on Samuel Hillier (who I know nothing about).

Are there other living descendants out there who may want to contact me re above?

Thank you.
