Marvin,
Do you know if Philemon's son, John, listed in the 1850 Fayette County TN census is the same John Hilliard listed in the 1860 Fayette County TN with wife Catherine, child W.C. and child 6/12? John is listed as an overseer for Simon Miller in that census. John was 20 in the 1850 census and 32 in the 1860 census. The age difference makes me wonder if they are the same. Also, the John in the 1850 is born in AL, the John in the 1860 is born in TN, but there is a lot of ditto marks on that page.

In 1870 John and wife Catherine are listed in the DeSoto County MS. census with several children. One of the children, David, is my great grandfather. David Ballard Hilliard died in 1898 in Faulkner County at the age of 34 leaving a wife and four small children. David's son, Eulas, was my grandfather.

If this is the same family, do you know when Catherine died and where the rest of the family went. I can not find them in the 1880 census anywhere.

John died in 1895 in Faulkner County AR also. He and David are both buried in the Mt. Olive cemetery at Vilonia, AR.

I am presuming that Catherine died and that John remarried.
His second spouse was Ann Wilkerson. Have been told they married near Conway, AR in the late 1880s, but can not find a marriage record.

I have only found info on two of John and Catherine's children, David and Powhattan.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Claudia Long
