John Hillhouse (1834-92), Ayrshire to KS

I am looking for any information on my gr-gr-gr-grandfather, John Hillhouse. He was born in Ayrshire, Scotland in 1834 and immigrated with his wife (Jeanette McClair) and their two children. They eventually ended up settling in KS, but only after spending time in NE and MO. I suspect they might have met up with Hillhouse relatives in Missouri. Does anyone have info on a Hillhouse family in Ayrshire that he fits into? I have found nothing but dead-ends to this point...
