I too have the will of John Hilleary and the Merry Land you mention is a tract of land upon which he lived at the time he drew up his will. It states he gave the land to his beloved wife Anne Hilleary. Writing is very small and the copy is mostly black and hard to see but I can make this out very well. It is the first item of his listing of bequeaths or how ever you put it.

These are the children of John and Anne Perry Hilleary as far as I've been able to put together via the wills of John and Anne and two of their daughters.

Tighlman, b.July 25,near Petersville, Frederick County, MD. 1796 M. Ann Worthington
John Henry, M. Cornelia Williams

My 3rd great grandfather was Ozburn Hilleary and his will states he was their son as well. He was born October 3, 1783 in Frederick County MD and died February 3, 1853 in Vermilion County, ILL. He is buried with his wife Eleanor Hollenback Hilleary in Snider Cemetery Blount twp, Vermilion Cnty, ILL.

Ozburn was in Muskinghum Co., Ohio in 1820, my gggrndfather was born there in 1817.

I believe Ozburn was not mentioned in his father's will because he was away from Maryland and they probably didn't know if he was dead or alive. I am trying to get a copy of Ozburn's will but so far the state of Ill has not sent it and my cousin has not had the opportunity to go to Danville and get me a copy.

My gggrandfather John Hilleary came to Oregon in 1852 from Iowa over the Oregon trail and it wasn't until Deb, my cousin in Illinois and I met on the net that the family back there knew what had happened to John and his family. IT was a reunion that had been anticipated for over 150 years.

Hope the listings help.

You can email me at and I can scan the rest of the stuff I have for you. I have arthritis in my hands and it's hard to type it all.

Linda Lee
