Hutchinson Postmaster 05/04/1893 Discontinued on October 18, 1894; papers to Brackettville. HILLCOAT, TEXAS. Hillcoat was twenty miles northeast of Brackettville in northeastern Kinney County. It was probably named after FREDERICK HILLCOAT, an area rancher who was postmaster of the Hillcoat post office in 1892. That year the settlement had an estimated population of sixty and a Catholic Church administered by Rev. Julian Ortiz. Hillcoat's post office operated from 1890 until 1894, the year the community appears to have been abandoned. Per The Times, Wednesday, 8th. May 1918, page 5: MURDERED BY MEXICAN BANDITS NEW YORK, May 7, — A telegram from Eagle Pass, Texas, states that, according to a dispatch from La Mariposa, Mexican bandits murdered four British subjects there last Thursday. Their names are given as Miss G. Lamare, Mrs. Frederick Hillcoat, Mr. Frederick Hillcoat, and their son, Jerry Hillcoat. — Reuter.
