Susanne,

Have a fifth generation ancestor James Hillard b.1783 at Ditcheat son of John Hillard and Maria Cook; he went to East Harptree by 1807 and stayed there for most of the rest of his life, but died in Bristol. Have been through the earlier Ditcheat registers to some extent, but find them rather confusing, what with all the similar names {Hillard, Hellard, Hollard, Holland, Gillard}; especially when old Hs look like Gs and vice versa. Unfortunately my line doesn't seem to fit in very obviously; John is b.1757 but his father is James and I can't seem to find him.

Have one other correspondent who definitely does fit into the main Ditcheat lines and has fed me some info; between that, the IGI and my own notes I was hoping sometime to put together a conjectural database but as yet have not got round to it. Will be very interested to know how far you have got and where you fit in; if my tree from John b.1757 down is useful to you, I will gladly send you a copy.

David Powell
