Rhea, thank you for your response.I don't know about these folks YET....but we are related to Lees and Thorntons both.If you don't mind, I'm going to forward your message to Jean Thornton Johnson, the family history genius for the Thorntons. She is a wonderful person who knows about everything Thornton.
I think we're likely onto something, though. We only just found out about the Hill connection recently and know NOTHING except that our GGGrandfather, Benajah Ward, married Pheraby/Pharba/Pherabee.....well you get it..Hill.She died when her oldest child was only three or four and nobody in the family even knew her last name.We found it when, mercifully, the history center there sent us our Aunt Polly's death certificate along with something else we ordered. On it, miracle of miracles, was her mother's maiden name!
So we're at the absolute beginning stages with Hills. However, there was a neighbor in the area named Green Hill, if I remember correctly. We suspect our Pheraby was the daughter. But we really have NO CLUE.And because we are descended from the second wife, Millie Thornton, we can't even do DNA unless they can take it from an 1860/61 dress Aunt Polly wore.
AND we don't know where Benajah came from, either. It is making me CRAZY because they are SUCH an interesting family!
Please stay in touch. My home e-mail is [email protected] and I'm not worried about putting it out there.Thank you.
