Hills Farm, Accomack County, Virginia
I'm researching the early Drummond and Hill families of Accomack County, Virginia (and later of Worcester and Somerset Counties, Maryland). Captain Richard Hill and Mary Drake owned 1,000 acres called "Drake's Neck" on Hunting Creek (near Chesapeake Bay) which were left to four grandsons by Mary in her will of 1694 (Richard must have died before her as she is the own bequeathing to portions below):
200 acres to Francis Ayres (NW end)
300 acres to Drake Drummond (middle)
300 acres to Stephen Drummond (NE corner)
200 acres to John Ayres (SE corner)
The brick house that is standing on the plantation contains a brick dated 1697 and supposedly was built by Richard and Mary's grandson, Richard Hill, but I can't find anything about him. Presumably his father was Richard Hill II, but I can't find a wife or family for him, either.
My ancestors are John Drummond (abt 1635-1713) and Patience Hill (abt 1650-bef 1713), daughter of Richard and Mary (Drake) Hill.
Stephen Drummond died at sea in 1710 and left his 300 acres to his nephew, Stephen Allen, son of his sister, Margaret Drummond, wife of Edmond Allen.
Is it possible that it wasn't Richard Hill the III who built this home but one of the four grandsons above?
