Seven Amherst Co., Va. Hill Families
Please find below summary of information provided by many good researchers.
The seven Hill families of Amherst Co., Va. Hill in the late 1700s
DNA samples were obtained from individuals with well documented lineages to three of the 7 Amherst Co. Va. families.Captain John Hill and Sgt James Hill matched each other and also matched Group 28 at the Hill surname DNA project. (http://www.hilldna.com/resultsexcel.htm).However, these two DNA samples did not match DNA obtained from the line to William Hill/Susannah (?), parents ofMadison Hill Group 28.This shows that the Captain John Hill and the Sergeant James Hill families are related to each other but NOT related to the Madison Hill lines.DNA sponsorships are available for the following Amherst co. Va. lineages: Nathaniel Hill, Thomas Hill, I.Y. Hill, and John D. Hill lines.POC: [email protected]

7.I.Y. Hill family of Amherst County: Samuel Bailey (Gent.) migrated from England to Richmond Co., Va. in 1700 where he served as a Justice for the King of England. His son Samuel Bailey married Sarah Lewis and his grandson, General Samuel Bailey (French and Indian War.) married Sarah Augusta Parks. They were the parents of Parks Bailey, John Bailey, and Sarah JudithBailey who married married I.Y. Hill of Amherst Co., Va.
They had two sons, Samuel C. Hill and William Hill. Both fought with General Greene at the battle of Guilford County Courthouse in March of 1781.This means that they were at least 16 years old at that time, giving them estimated birth-years before 1765.It also establishes an estimated birth year and for I.Y. Hill by subtracting 21 from 1765. Some researchers believe that I.Y. Hill was a son William Hill of Lunenberg Co. Va. and the grandson of Isaac Hill/Jennings.
I.Y. Hill b/bef 1745 m/Sarah Judith Bailey bef 1765, daughter of Samuel and Augusta Parks Bailey.
a. Samuel C. Hill b/bef 1765 m/Lucy Mitchell and migrated to Henry Co in 1801
