Interested to know if there is a connection between Thomas J. Hill who was of Fremont, Breckenridge Co KS in 1860 census, aged 52, farmer, born TN. Wife was Melinda, aged 51, b TN. Kids: Syrena J., 17, (shown as owning land worth $1,500), b IA; Pamelia J., 15, IA; Winfield, 13, IA; William A., 10 IA; Thomas J. Jr., 7, IL. Serena Jane Hill married Edward Jenkins 15 April 1861 Emporia, Lyon Co KS.

Now, am wondering if there is a connection to Mary Ann Hill, who was born Sept 20, 1812, supposedly Claiborne Co TN, possibly dau of Thomas Hill and Elizabeth Schultz (tho the dates to not jive), Mary Ann married Andrew Jackson Mitchell, Jan 31, 1835 (supposedly in Claiborn CO TN, but not in Co records), and she died 12 Nov 1878, Lyon or Neosho Co KS. Children: James Richard; Jacob Schultz; Elizabeth; Thomas Robert; Serena M; Louise J; William C; Spencer N. Belmer; William R.; Mary Matilda. This Serena was also married in Emporia, Lyon Co KS, but to Hartwell Martin, 13 Sept 1865. Both Andrew Jackson Mitchell and Thomas Hill were stonemasons in 1860 census. Andrew is in Breckenridge Co also in 1860, but in Forest Hills.

I am suspicious that Thomas (b ca 1808) is a brother to Mary Ann. Is anyone able to confirm or deny this? Thanks, Trish Elliott-Kashima
