Charles Francis "Chuckawala Charlie" Hill of California
Would appreciate any information and history about Charles Francis Hill, who went by "Charlie" or "Chuckawala Charlie" and lived in southern California. Have heard he was quite an entrepeneur and work for a circus/carnival among many other ventures. Wrote and published a book (possibly about his life with the circus?) which I'd be very interested in learning more about and possibly purchasing, if available.
Not much personal information available. Believed to have lived in the general San Diego vicinity as an elderly man who had lost his sight about 1983 and died shortly after that. Thought to have lived on property of a hunting lodge with his grandson, "Steve" Clark, in the late 1960's or early 1970's. Said to have looked just like late singer Burl Ives. Had children, among them, sons named Jerry (who passed away around 1968), George, and one son/daughter said to have owned a bar, possibly adjacent to a military base in southern California. His ancestors believed to have come from the Hartford, CT area.
