Hello Greg,
I wanted to take my time to get more familiar with the Hill family material before I replied. This family is confusing enough without me adding to the confusion.Your info has been very helpful.I have a number of points to bring up.
First, you mention a Riale family being in Frederick County, Maryland, and involved in a third Hill family's dealings there.I imagine you're aware that one of Isaac Hill's (husband of Elizabeth Dungan; probate: 1799) daughters (Rebecca) married a Richard Riale of Bucks County, and his daughter Elizabeth was already (1799) married to Nathan Reiley [sic] as well. With the occurrence of both surnames being associated in both states, it seems there may have been some sort of link between that Maryland Hill family and the Hill family of Bucks County, PA.I don't know what that connection might be.
Secondly, you mentioned Abraham Hill, whose indenture of 1762 left a leasehold to the above Isaac Hill.(I've read that at least the Michener family went to court and cleaned up the lingering ground rents - also paid to Richard Hill and Samuel Preston Moore's heirs - and left their properties in full fee ownership.)If I follow correctly, it is this Abraham Hill whom you could not connect with the family of Dr. Richard Hill.Is that right? If so, I assume you have not yet found this Abraham Hill's parentage.
Thirdly, (simply to point out a typo) I believe Davis' "History of Bucks County" refers incorrectly to"Dr." Richard Hill on page 382.I think the line near the bottom that starts, "In 1745 Dr. [sic] . . ." was actually referring to the merchant Richard Hill of Philadelphia, grandnephew of Mayor Richard Hill (1673-1729)of Philadelphia, and the SON of the Doctor Richard Hill.It seems even Davis had a hard time keeping it all straight!
Fourthly, you cite two deeds (in your post of October 2, 2004), which appear to be for Bucks County, PA, and seem to have LDS film number references. The 1803 deed recites a 1762 transfer from Abraham and Elizabeth Hill of Plumstead, parents of Isaac Hill. However, my copy from the LDS film of the Bucks County deed index does not show Abraham Hill listed for the year 1762 as a deed grantor. Is the index incomplete or did that deed perhaps not get recorded? I'm curious if you have found that 1762 indenture directly?
Fifth, there are quite a number of Hill family land transfers that seem to have occurred arund 1803.What do you think was happening to trigger that activity?
Sixth, an online abstract of a Bucks County will for William Crosdale [Croasdale] of Bristol, Bucks Co, PA (probated January 10th, 1715; 1:22), names his daughter Agnes as the wife of a Richard Hill.Do you know how that Richard Hill might tie into this?
Seventh, I have a copy of an 1816 deed from George Dillwyn and his wife Sarah (a daughter of Dr. Richard Hill) to John Michener, which names the siblings of Sarah Dillwyn and Hannah Hill (wife of Samuel Preston Moore) quite clearly. The sibling's names agree with the chart on page 4 of the "Dr. Richard Hill of London Town" book you recommended.Per the deed, the Dillwyn's resided in Burlington, NJ.Have you researched that location for any more possible Hill connections?
As a note to clarify something, you mentioned (Oct 2, 2004) an Isaac Hill probate from 1790.Did you mean 1799?
Thanks so much for the information you have shared. It has really helped.
