Clara H. Dow
AUBURN – Clara H. Dow, 79, wife of the late William E. Dow, died Saturday, July 20, at her Auburn home. She was a former long-time resident of Sanford.
She was born in Machias on June 29, 1923, the daughter of Allen and Dorothy (Vane) Hill. She was a graduate of Machias High School and attended Washington State Normal School and Beverly School of Nursing in Beverly, Mass.
She worked in nursing for many years at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, and at the Sanford Health Care Facility.
She was an avid volunteer at the Sanford Library and was very active in the Emblem Club No. 139 in Sanford.
Survivors include one son, Wayne and wife Toni of Moorpark, Calif.; two daughters, Donna Walker and husband Thomas of Auburn, and Maureen Smith and husband Richard of Machias; one sister, Annie Hanscom of Machias; one brother, Donald Hill of Palmyra; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband; and by a sister, Mary H. Stevens.
