Hill family migrating from VA/IN/IA/MO
I am having a most difficult time locating info. on my gggrandfather, John F./T./H./ Hill who was born in Va in 1824. He married Labeny Ellen Franklin, or I have been told that her maiden name was Franklin, who was born in N.C.in 1826. On my ggrandmother, Irene's death certificate, it looks as though her maiden name was Alexander, but I don't know if that info. is correct. When or where they were married I don't know.I have them on the 1870 cemsus in Benton Co. MO.He is listed in the MO census book as John H. Hill, and I have him on the 1880 census in Jasper Co. MO.He is also listed in the MO census book as John T. Hill there. On my ggrandmother's death certificate he is listed as John F. Hill.SO, I am not sure if his middle initial is F. T. or H. However, he was in Indiana in 1852-1853, as 2 of his duaghters were born there.Mary and Nancy. He was in Iowa in1854, as my ggrandmother, Irene, was born there. He also had daughters born there by the names of Adela, and Almeda, and Louise. He was then in MO, someplace, in 1860, as his duaghter, Narcissus, was born there in 1860.Then came Melvinia, born 1864, Sedalia, MOand Thomas B., born in 1869.Apparently Thomas died as a child, as he is not listed on the 1880 census. He also had a son, by the name, or nickname, of Elick, who was killed in the Civil War as a young boy.Where or when Elick was born I don't know, as I can not find them on t he 1860 census. However, Louise married a William Henry Wollaver/Wooliver in Warsaw MO in 1868.Nancy married a W.J. Prewitt in Warsaw, MO in 1874, Irene, my ggrandmother, married John P. Foster in Warsaw, MO in 1874, and Narcissus married Joseph Crawford in Warsaw, MO in 1874. Melvinia married Elijah Adams in Jasper, MO in 1880. Irene and John Foster ended up in Galena, KS.Narcissus and Joseph ended up in Century, OK, a town now gone, but very close to Miami, OK, and Melvinia and Elijah ended up in Hepner, Oregon. They did, however, spend some time in VanBuren, ARk. before going to Oregon. Also, Louise and William Wooliver's daughter, Martha Wooliver Stainbrook, also went to VanBuren, ARk at the same time Melvinia and Elijah were there. Both Melvinia and Martha had children born there in 1890.Melvinia had Nora Elizabeth Adams, and Marth, had Frank Stainbrook. Why they went there I don't know. I was wondering if they had other Hill familyl members there?? VanBuren, Ark, certainly is not on the way to Oregon from Carthage, MO. My grandmother, Mary E. Foster was born in Jasper Co. MO (Carthage)in 1875.I can not find where or when John and Labeny died or where they are buried. They were listed as 56, and 54 years old on the 1880 census of Jasper Co. MO.I have searched Jasper Co. records for their deaths, and come up with nothing.John was supposed to have been a Confederate Vet. having received an injured leg in the War.If anyone at all can help me out with any information on this family, you have no idea how grateful I would be.I have searched for 3 years.
Thanks,
Victoria Sills
