there has been a certain Felix Blortz (the eldest brother of my great-grandfather), born July 23rd, 1855 at Oberhoffen-sur-Moder, Alsatia, France. In 1878 he left Le Havre and arrived in New York October 9th. He might be the father of Emma, Selma and Lina. Perhaps Lina's full name was Carolina or Caroline, and she was named after her aunt Caroline, a younger sister of Felix.
Their parents were Georges Blortz and Catharina Omphalius, born in 1822 and 1824 resp.; Georges's parents were named Philippe Blortz (born 1790) and Anne Marie Eckardt (born 1788); Philippe's parents: Theobald or Thiebaut Blortz and Catherine Kern.
In Ancestry.com, there are other "American Blortz'", and only recently, I found a picture of a tombstone in Pleasanton, Michigan.
There are still Blortz' in Alsatia and, of course, there's my family in Germany - all descendants of Thiebaut - whose traces I still have to find, perhaps somewhere in Switzerland of in the Black Forest.
Best regards, Ulrich Ch. Blortz
