Here is the last will and testament of John Hiles Sr. This was transcribed by me from data taken from will book M pg. 319 Scott Co. Kentucky court house. I post this in hope that someone can help me to “sort out the Johns”. Does anyone know the relationship between John Hiles Sr., John S. Hiles, John C. Hiles, John H. Hiles to John Hiles the Revolutionary War soldier?

I John Hiles Sr. being of sound mind, do make this my last will and testament. After my funeral expenses and just debts are paid. I give and bequeath to John S. Hiles and George Hiles fifty dollars for getting * and milling. I give to Margaret Henderson one bed and bedding and a set of knives and forks, and a set of plates. I give and bequeath to Andrew Hiles and John Hiles, my sons two dollars each, in addition to what I have heretofore given. I give and bequeath to my two daughters, Elizabeth Davis and her children, and Mary Graham and her children the remainder of my estate.

I Polcer Hiles heretofore appointed curator of the estate of John Hiles Sr. did return the foregoing inventory of goods and * of said estate. Which had come to my hands, and that it is also a time sale bill of the goods and chattels sold by me as curator on the 26th day of August 1854. Having administered according to the law I took note of the purchasers.

Scott Co. Kentucky Sept. Seventh 1856

A paper importing to be a copy of the last will and testament of John Hiles was this day introduced in court and upon the testimony of James Griffith and James W. Griffith, who stated that they are the surviving witnesses to the * will of said John Hiles and that the will had accidentally burned after publication without his knowledge or consent, and this copy now before the court is a true copy of the original. It is ordered that said copy be recorded as the will of said John Hiles.
