There is no such thing as a family coat of arms. CofA were given to specific men, and inherited by their oldest legitimate son. Eomen and the product of sowing wild oats need not apply, thank you very much. They whip one up for ladies if you are royal. The Queen of England has her own. If you look very carefully at the tiny C of A on those ads in the better magazines that say "By royal warrant, provider of [scotch, land rovers . . .] to Her majesty . . ." you will see that the Prince of Wales does not use his mother's "Family" C of A; he has his own, as does she. There are a couple of dozen merchants who sell "Family" C of A to the gullible. What you get is a C ofA that was once issued to someone with your surname. With "Smith" or "Miller" you can choose from a wide variety; you can get one to match the colors in your living room. With "Hile" your choices are more limited, but it sounds like there are at least two.
