>>>>>>>>>>>>>> John M. Hiler born 1767 N.J. died 20 Dec 1843 in Penfield, Monroe, NY. Per oral history, John M. had three wives and 24 children. The third wife was Margaret Unstead (Ouisted, Onstrut) (1788 - 12 Dec 1858 Penfield, Monroe, NY). Would like to hear from other descendants of John M. Some of the children were: Rachael b. 1797 m. John Horton, Peter, Silas, James Edward, Malissa, Sam, Hannah m. Stephen Cosgrove. The youngest was George Washington Hiler, b. 1822 and d. 1906, who married Amanda Parker. These were my gr gr grandparents. John M. Hiler's parents may have been Jacob Hiler, son of Nicholas Hiler. <<<<<<<<<<<<<< The speculation is that John M. Hiler born 1767 is the son of Martin Hiler & Susannah. Records show that a John of Pequanack was made a ward after his father's death (Matthew = Martin) NEW JERSEY COLONIAL DOCUMENTS, CALENDAR OF WILLS - 1781-1785; pg. 213 1785, Dec. 22. Hyler, John, of Pequanack, Morris Co. Ward. Son of Matthew {Martin} Hyler, of said place, deceased. Said Ward makes choice of Joseph Scott as his Guardian; being out of wardship of Susanna Lyon. Witness--Mahlon Dickerson. 1785, Dec. 22. Guardian--Joseph Scott. fellowbondsman--Peter Hiler; both of said place. Witness--Ebenezer Pierson Lib. 28, p. 488 Based on the many Hiler names I've seen in that area of New York, I assumed this John had a good sized family. My records show the one marriage to Margaret and son Silas, dau. Hannah. I've also added some records since my original data was put up on the Web at the Edward Ball website (http://www.altlaw.com/edball/html/d0045/i15948.htm): 1) Monroe County, New York Will Testators Index #1 Name of Testator: Residence: County #, Vol #, Page # HILER, JOHN * 28-3-334 HILER, JOHN M. PENFIELD 28-3-266 HILER, MARGARET * 28-7-388 2) HILAR, John married ONSTROT, Margaret on 19 Jan 1804 Groom of Pequannock; Bride of Hanover by: Abraham Kitchell, J.P. SOURCE: Morris County Marriages Book A 3) From: http://raims.com/Deedsw.html Deed Index, Grantees, Ontario County, NY, 1789-1845, Letter "W" Year: 1817 Last Name: Welshar First Name: Lana Grantor Last: Hiler Grantor F: John M. Lib: 29 Page: 16 Jacob Hiler, son of Nicholas Hiler is my line and I don't belive John M. fits here. And as a side note, you must know that Hiler's & Tichenor's were all over the place in Morris County during the 1700's? Both lines have several men who fought in the Revolution in that area. I hope this info is of some help, and I'd love to see what you have. Notify Administrator about this message?
